5 SKINCARE TIPS I LEARNED AFTER HAVING ONE CONVERSATION

You learn something new every day!  Last Sunday we were a part of an event with a New Orleans based makeup artist and esthetician.  I had no idea that I was really kind of cheating myself out of the expensive face products I purchase simply because I didn’t know the best times and ways to apply them. I am going to give you a few of the tips that she gave us during the makeup class:

At night if you wash your face typically when you shower, the first thing you should do when you get out is complete your skincare routine on your face.  The warm shower opens up your pores and if you begin to feel your face tightening your pores are closing.  You want to get the serums and moisturizer on your face before this happens.  So pat your face dry, and then quickly apply the rest of your routine before doing anything else after your shower. This was super surprising to me, this was usually the very last thing I did, so I have definitely changed up my night time routine over the last week.Try to avoid harsh exfoliators.  Things with crushed seeds and shells can be too harsh for your skin.  It can actually damage your skin causing your skin to be vulnerable to outside pollutants causing breakouts and an uneven skin tone.  So that ever so famous Apricot Scrub, isn’t necessarily the best thing to use on your face.Stick to gentle exfoliators with ingredients like jojoba beads 2-3 times a week. These gentle exfoliating cleansers are best for your sensitive facial skin. Sunscreen. Ok I knew this one, but I am honestly not always the best at following through on it.  Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by always applying a SPF in the morning before your makeup or use products that contain SPF. Moisturize. Even if you think you have oily skin. Your skin is so thirsty and needs the moisturizer.  If you have oily skin and you don’t moisturize, your skin will produce more oil because it isn’t getting what it needs.
This is one of my favorite things about getting out and talking to different people in the industry. There is so much to learn.  Here’s hoping that these few tips I picked up last weekend help with this hormonal face I have been dealing with.  Have a great weekend ladies!
